:10 seconds into video and rocket explosion. what space-x scientists say went wrong with this latest attempted landing. good monday morning. i'm lex gray, in for katie collett. and i'm don roberts. we have a lot of news and weather to get to this morning. let's get a check of these cold temperatures with meteorologist deitra tate who's in for jeremy wheeler this morning. deitra. afternoon. a heavy dose of snow. this is what it looked like in portsmouth for a while. it didn't stick around long. but it left a mess on the roads. so how are they looking now? we sent 10 on your side's rico bush to check things out. rico, what are you seeing? lex, don, we've been riding around during the overnight hours, checking for slick spots and it's safe to say the roads are in great shape. however, don't let the clear roads fool you - ice could be an issue now. as temperatures are expected to drop below freezing this morning, the wintry mix that lasted from yesterday could still freeze to the roads, causing some black ice. black ice can form when wet road conditions freeze with cold temperatures - and it's dangerous because you can't see it. last night, v-dot crews salted and sanded bridges, ramps and overpasses hoping to eliminate that

afternoon. another person in the car was also hurt. troopers believe smith may have been speeding. she was not wearing a seatbelt. developing this morning, investigators near richmond are still trying to figure out what started a weekend house fire that killed 5 people, including two children. it happened in chesterfield county. ten people were inside at the time. firefighters worked frantically to get them out all. five adults survived. but paramedics say four people died at the scene. the fifth died at the hospital. the victims are a 1-year-old boy, a 3- year-old girl and three adults. :21 - 29 runs 8 there was 6 guys in my room like no seriously you gotta go there is significant fire damage to the house. the red cross is helping the surviving family members with another place to stay this morning. two firefighters went to the hospital with minor burns, along with a police officer who was cut at the scene.

0-15 runs 15 seconds loop video loop video it was a successful launch, but failed landing. this space-x rocket exploded when it fell over at the end of its mission. it launched yesterday morning off the coast of los angeles. but then -- the jason three rocket landed on a floating barge in the pacific ocean. a support leg broke, causing the rocket to topple over and burst into flames. space x founder elon musk said the failed landing may have been caused by ice build-up from heavy fog during lift-off. no people were hurt in the explosion. this morning we are

about a passenger plane that made an emergency landing in our area. it's after 10 on your side heard from people stuck in norfolk. norfolk international airport says a united airlines plane was heading from newark, new jersey to santo domingo in the dominican republic. it made an emergency landing just before noon yesterday. a spokesperson with the airport said there was a problem with the boeing 7-57's right engine. the plane landed safely with more than two hundred people on board. passengers tell us the airline is going to "try" and fly them out this afternoon. developing this morning, the u-s state department is working to locate at three american contractors kidnapped in iraq. an iraqi security official said a group of gunmen grabbed the americans from an apartment in baghdad. officials in iraq's capital did not offer any details but said they were working with the u-s embassy to get more information. this morning there is still no sign of 12 marines, whose two helicopters crashed. it happened during nighttime training last week. the coast guard has

for survivors. the coast guard says it has no intention of calling off or suspending the search despite the high surf. cg= capt. jim jenkins, u.s. coast guard < we've been searching 24 hours a day since we were notified and got on scene. > < we are still searching for survivors. that's an important point to make. > crews collected debris over the weekend bbelieved to be from the two fallen helicopters. so far teams searched more than 18-thousand square miles. police in st. louis are investigating what led up to a deadly officer-involved shooting at a fast food restaurant. investigators in missouri say an officer shot and killed a suspect in an armed robery at a k-f-c. a witnessed flagged down the officer and told them about the robbery. the officer confronted the 52- year-old suspect, who then raised a handgun towards the officer. investigators are looking at surveillance video from inside the k-f-c. this morning many people in flint, michigan are scared to drink the water.

the water supply was contaminated by lead. reverend jesse jackson led a rally for justice yesterday to protest the governor's response to the crisis. the governor appointed an emergency manager in 2014 to flint. the manager then switched the city's water source to save money. officials reversed the move when tests found increased lead leves in residential water and children's blood. reverend jackson called for the governor to reimburse residents who paid for posioned water. reverend jesse jackson/ rally leader "nobody can avoid the impact of this. the fact that gm said it rots cars... it sure rots throat. butt to the people of flint have been betrayed by their own government. the people have been betrayed ." musician cher said this past weekend she would help the people in flint. she partnered with a water bottling company and promised to send more than 180-thousand bottles of water. it could be another rough week for traders on wall street.

slid to their lowest levels since 2011! the nikkei index in tokyo fell more than 2 percent in early morning trading. in china, shares opened lower, but recovered a bit. markets in hong kong and south korea also fell. investors are worried about a global economic meltdown following the release of weak u-s economic data and massive falls in oil prices. this morning, oil fell as much as 4 percent per barrel. the u-s market is closed today because of the holiday. also today leaders in washington, d-c will honor doctor martin luther king junior. f-b-i director and william & mary grad james comey will take part in a wreath- laying ceremony at the king memorial in our nation's capitol. attorney general loretta lynch will speak at the national action network's annual king day breakfast. during the breakfast pastor clementa pinckney's wife will receive an award on behalf of her late husband. he was one of the nine people killed in a shooting at a church in charleston, south carolina.

brought mixed reactions to our area this past weekend. many people were happy to see snow, while others dreaded the wet weather. whichever your case may be, maybe this video will cheer you up today. it's of a snow diving squirrel in estonia. after a heavy snow fall last week, these animals had to work a little harder to get to their food. this squirrel showed off its athletic ability, diving head-first from the trees to find its stash of nuts. new this morning, bad news for all you chocolate lovers. your sweet tooth is going to cost you. according to a new report from the the raw materials from bad weather and poor farming. also, chocolate hit an all-time high demand last year. the price of chocolate is up nearly 40 percent since 2012. also new this morning, the u-s department of transportation released its latest list of on-time airlines. hawaiian airlines ranked
